postcards from the past

In summer of 2008 while looking around in thrift stores I came across these two postcards. The first is "greetings from Michigan". From the looks of it I would guess it is from the early 1970's, I am not sure as there is no date. I like the round edges of this postcard, also on the back side it says the state motto: "If you see a pleasant peninsula, look about you".

The second postcard is much cooler, it is from San Antonio, Texas. I pretty much love everything about this card. I think the reason to me this card is so powerful as an image is that when people try to make these cards in present day they are on the computer and NEVER have the full effect. I like how this card is a work of art that found it's way into mainstream culture despite being written off by some as stupid Americana.

This card is from 1942 as you can see from the stamp, it was send from Texas to Pineville, NC. Notice how there is just a name and city with no address. The stamp is a 1¢ defense stamp, that is really neat too.
